From November 8 to December 7, 2024, the very first Jungle Unleashed will take place in Maastricht. Jungle Unleashed is a unique experience where art, music, and creative expression take center stage, and a fantastic opportunity to participate in an inspiring series of workshops led by L’Okapi Founder and singer-songwriter Charlotte Haesen and visual artist Deniece Clermonts.
Why Jungle Unleashed?
Art and music are often praised as universal languages and powerful tools, but how to actually use them to express yourself is easier said than done. Jungle Unleashed is your chance to explore music and art in a way that suits you. By experimenting with sounds, words, colors, and images, you’ll dive into your own story, sound, and vision. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ here. Jungle Unleashed is about discovering and developing your artistic voice and creative power. From music and songwriting to visual arts, during the workshops you’ll be introduced to various techniques and tools to creatively express yourself, learn new skills, and refine your talents. And you're not doing this alone—you'll be in great company with others who share your passion for art and music!
Who is it for?
While L’Okapi values inclusivity, Jungle Unleashed is specifically designed for young people and adults over 18. Whether you’re just starting or have been involved in music or art for a while—everyone is welcome!
How much does it cost?
Participation is free, and everything is ready-set for you. The only thing you need to bring is yourself—and a willingness to try new things. We do expect you to attend at least four workshops, not just for your own experience but also out of respect for everyone contributing and those who, due to limited spots, may not be able to join.

Singer-songwriter & Founder L'Okapi

Charlotte, with (musical) roots in France, the Netherlands, and Burundi, began her musical journey at Conservatorium Maastricht, which she continued at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam where she specialized in jazz vocals and songwriting. Since 2009, she has worked as a freelance singer, composer, arranger, and bandleader. She has received several awards and released multiple EPs and albums, including the well-received Du Bout des Yeux (2018) and Perles de pluie (2019) with Challenge Records.On stage, she delivers a unique live experience as a performer, with honest lyrics, a voice that cuts through emotions, vibrant melodies, and an aesthetic in line with emotional visionaries like Björk, Aurora, and Laura Mvula. Known for her versatile performances and appeal to a wide audience, she has given over 600 performances in a variety of venues—from intimate clubs and serene churches to festival fields and concert halls.
With L’Okapi, she aims to use the power of music to shine a light on themes such as mental well-being, identity, self-discovery, and breaking down stigmas.

Creative Explosie & Visual Artist
www.deniecesami.comFor visual artist and social butterfly Deniece Sami Juliana Clermonts, creating — whether through painting, fashion, or singing — is essential to processing the stimuli of the world around her. Fascinated by anatomy and the psyche, her multimedia work reflects her inner world and her dialogue with the external world.
Through her interactive, expressive works, her ‘scribble’ process, and previous solo exhibitions like Orange to my Blue, Deniece translates her own experiences and explores the relationship between identity, self-expression, and mental well-being. Her talent and work come to life not only on canvas but also as a visual arts workshop facilitator, where she guides others in expressing themselves visually in an accessible and supportive way.
Workshops: what to expect?
From Soundwave to Brushstroke
There are a total of 5 different workshops, carefully and diversely designed to support each participant’s creative process. Each workshop session lasts 90 minutes, accommodates up to 14 participants, and will be organised twice a week under the professional guidance of Charlotte and/or Deniece. The workshops take place in the welcoming environment of @ease Maastricht, where everything you need to unleash your creativity will be available. In addition to the universal language of art and music, the workshops are in Dutch and English.

Songwriting
Step into the world of music and storytelling with Charlotte, and playfully discover how music can translate emotions, experiences, and stories. Explore various musical elements such as melody, rhythm, harmony, and texture, and learn how to bring your voice to life through music.
Visual
Art
Deniece will take you on a sensory journey filled with sounds, colors, shapes, and textures to spark and stimulate your creativity. Let the spontaneity of the moment guide you and learn how to intuitively express thoughts and emotions through various visual art forms, such as painting, drawing, or mixed media.

Jungle Unleashed is all about discovering and creating together. So, you’re not alone and will work alongside others! The open and supportive environment allows music, art, stories, and new friendships to naturally come together. Here, you’ll have the freedom to explore what you want to express, in ways that feel right to you.
